Speciality Doctors

The Specialist Doctor grade replaced the SAS grade and Associate Specialist in 2008.  Within the NHS in Scotland the specialist is regarded as having a wider field of expertise and training - usually 4 plus years after graduating.

Although ultimately within the Consultant's team, the Specialist Doctor can perform routine and emergency treatment as well as being involfed in FY1 and FY2 doctor training sessions.  The longer term career goal of most Specialist Doctors working with the Locum Agency is to gain enough experience to apply for a Consultant's position.
